SHERIDAN REED LA’s LATEST BREAKOUT MUSICIAN
The Sheridan Reed’s new single “We Should Both Be Here”
Los Angeles, CA – Sheridan Reed currently lives in Austin, TX where he recorded his most recent album. The album is full of soul with the catchy lyrics that a pop hit demands, nostalgia, and subtle nods to the west coast vibe. We Should Both Be Here, the album’s single, is available for streaming and download right now on Spotify, iTunes, and Apple Music.
Reed grew up in a family of musicians, they moved around often and he thrived on the change and found solace in the familiarity of making music. Throughout school, he fell further into the artistic realm with a growing love for poetry, which went on to influence the song-writing skills Austin, TXexperiences now.
Reed’s teenage years brought a move to Folsom, CA, where he would form a band with local friends. The young ensemble went on to release their debut album, Demolition, receive airtime on KRXQ 98 Rock Radio, and win Club Retro’s Battle of the Bands. By the time high school graduation came around, their stack of accomplishments grew tremendously- Reed recorded two albums with them and played prestigious Sacramento venues, those including The Crest Theatre and The Boardwalk.
Reed’s college years at San Diego State University he played with a local jazz ensemble. He also worked as Sound Engineer at Delirious Records where he would meet, and later join, a local rock band. They went on to headline venues like The House of Blues, San Diego and Los Angeles’ Whiskey A Go Go. Meanwhile, he worked on his own songwriting and found a love for Motown- a sound that would go on to shape and influence the development of Reed’s personal style.
While maintaining the constantly moving parts of his schedule with several groups and school, Sheridan Reed wrote, self-produced, and released two solo albums. Even though change was such a consistent part of his life, it was a leap of faith that brought him to Austin. The capital’s music scene called to him like a muse to ships in the night, so when the opportunity arose for him to relocate to Austin, TX, he took it.
“It wasn’t really until I got to Austin that I felt like things started to click. Writing came easier, my confidence grew. Everything just began to come together.” –Sheridan Reed
Sheridan Reed entered the scene playing with a local soul band. This group introduced him to some of the sultry venues Austin has to offer like The Roosevelt Room and Half Step. Seeking out a place to thrive as a solo artist, Reed played local open mic nights like the one at House Wine where he met Caleb Grant, who would go on to be the lead guitarist on his EP. Following the release of Reed’s single, We Should Both Be Here, he was invited to play Fox 7 Austin’s Music in the Morning segment. Moving to Austin was the metaphorical rain on Sheridan Reed’s creative soil that produced his most recent album with Tonal Records.
The single, We Should Both Be Here, is riddled with nostalgia and bouncy lyrics reminiscent of a past relationship. Love, nostalgia, and charm- a formidable combination- are three things Sheridan Reed wears like a shadow, and the album as a collective work is reflective of that; it is full of soul with the catchy lyrics that a pop hit demands, nostalgia, and subtle nods to the west coast vibe. Listen closely and you’ll hear colorful jazz voicings with pop melodies layered over the top. Reed likes to create music that’s fun for the musician and the listener alike. His musical influences reflect that, ranging from Michael Jackson to Otis Redding and Justin Timberlake (to name a few). While awaiting the anticipated Fall release date of his album, he continues to play locally. We Should Both Be Here, the album’s single, is available for streaming and download right now on Spotify, iTunes, and Apple Music.
